The nursing program at CUSF is designed for the post-license RN with an specialty interest in mental health and psychiatri nursing. A variety of degree tracks are available.
RN-to-MNP - Bridge Track (BS, MNP) The ADN nurse may complete the Bachelor of Science and Master of Nurse Practice concurrently. The Master of Nurse Practice prepares the learner for the ANCC exam as a Family Mental Health and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and for the NBCC exam Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Note: in 2012, California will begin independent licensure for mental health counselors by the Board of Behavioral Sciences title LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor). The LPCC like the LMFT and LCSW may contract directly with insruance carriers as independently licensed psychotherapy providers.
Master of Nurse Practice (MNP) Admission is open to those RNs with a baccalaureate degree. Prepares the graduate for both the ANCC exam as a Family Mental Health and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and the NBCC exam as a LPCC.
Doctor of Nurse Practice (DNP) Admission is open to those RNs with a Master degree in Nursing or a related field. The doctoral degree requires 90 graduate credits with a minimum of 30 from CUSF. There are two tracks, FMHP-NP only (30 credits) and FMHP-NP + LPCC (60 credits).
Doctor of Nursing Science (DNSc) Is a research doctorate awarded to the RN with a baccalareate degree who has conducted a mentor facilitated body of research that makes a significant contribution of new knowledge to the field of nursing. The degree is awarded upon successful presentation of a dissertation of less than 100,000 words.
