The Doctor of Nurse Practice has two tracks available.
Track 1 is 30 semester credit post-master's degree preparing the RN as a midlevel provider of Advanced Family Psychiatric and Mental Health nursing care . The curriculum is designed to meet ANCC standards for the nurse practitioner certificate.
Track 2 is a 60 semester credit post-master's degree preparing the RN as a midlevel provider of Family Psychiatric and Mental Health advance practice nursing and independent practice as nurse psychotherapist and professional counselor. The curriculum is designed to meet the ANCC standards for the nurse practitioner certificate as well as the NBCC criteria as an independently Licensed Professional Counselor.
Licensed Professional Counselors are independent practitioners who provide psychotherapy and counseling services with a scope of practice comparable to Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. LPCs contract directly with insurance carriers to provide psychotherapy and counseling services. Nurse Practitioners contract with insurance carriers to provide medically supervised advanced clinical care and medication management.
